I'd lean more toward group narcissism aka extreme tribalism...over individual narcissism.

You watch one of your own tribal members get hurt and you wince or get angry.

vs

You watch enemy tribe members get killed and feel nothing as they are outgroup.
The whooping and howling about attacking and destroying 'outgroup' tribe members.
A pathological dedication to your own tribe while an abject either hatred or apathy towards any other tribe.

I think the question is whether it's individual narcissism or tribal/group narcissism.

The most amusing description I've heard is extreme out of control tribalism. A mentality that developed where watching the next tribe over get slaughtered has not response, but watching one of your own tribal members get beat up inspires rage/sadness/etc.
