Thankfully, I don't think a major Western nation can get away with that nowadays. Which is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's a good thing, on the other...a big part of it is because people are lazy, insane, weak, and pathetic. That part's kind of depressing.

People don't like having their safety threatened. The sheep went along with covid because they were scared, and because they were promised they would be the Good Guys.

I don't think that's enough to convince them to let the Bad Guys actually shoot real bullets at them, though. I don't think we'll see conscription or a draft in the West, unless something really changes.
