A lot of people have difficult lives. I don't know many who have difficult lives not mostly because of choices they have made. Then, some people were raised poorly, so they make poor choices, so they end up in difficult circumstances, so they make poor choices, and so forth. Much more common than the victim of outside circumstances is the victim of the feedback loop that will get us all uninterrupted.

One thing I was saying to an ex-Mormon who was complaining about the BS they were raised with is that they are lucky that they ended up with the mental capacity to figure that out. Whatever mystical bullshit they were taught, this person was raised healthy and drug free. Able to reason. Just immersed in the made-up stuff. It's much easier to reason your way back down from that, than it is for a person whose brain doesn't work due to damage or who never was taught the ability to reason to work his way up.
