So did I, Dom. Do the math.

A normally patriarchal society loses most of its men in an extremely bloody war that they themselves started (resulting in, among too many other consequences to list, the destruction of their main place of worship), and yet the survivors actively refused to marry outside the clan so to speak in order to boost their numbers back up in however many centuries even after being not just conquered but scattered across the known world.

So with their entire social order in shambles, and the Second Temple dismantled down to the last brick (something Jesus Christ warned about in Matthew 24:1-2, approximately 40 years earlier), what can they do? They compile the oral traditions of the Pharisees and Sadducees (among others) into a series of documents and manuscripts that would eventually become the Talmud, and completely shift their culture to accommodate for the severe shortage of men, ergo becoming a matriarchal society (which then leads to a whole bunch of other consequences that are outside the scope of this discussion).
