This is a problem of software that relies far too much on third party crap and often ends up breaking because of auto-update features among other things or the programmers of the third party decide to do something retarded.

Believe it or not Unity the game engine went through a similar thing and their auto-update got compromised by a Ukraine activist which targeted computers with Russian IPs and wiped them through Github. Lots of people complaining and it was all swept under the rug by the Unity staff. I suspect they'll probably try to do the same thing here and claim it was some kind of generic 'glitch' rather than admit what happened because then it would piss people off and make them avoid them.

I am not surprised it's all coming to a head now and I don't think anyone in the tech sector is. All the more reason to build Linux PCs and get away from Microsoft as fast as possible. When I see this shit happening it's making me very glad that I am open sourcing everything as much as I can.
