Some kind of disgusting adhesive, the kind you'd find on wasp traps, would be hell to clean up before any repainting could occur. And if left alone it would collect filth. Used motor oil would certainly send a message and cost absolutely nothing, but doing that to the local ecosystem is pretty abominable.
