Nearly 60 years after the Civil Rights Act, the condition of Black people in America is better in many respects. However, in terms of income, wealth, education, infant mortality, home ownership, incarceration, health, and life expectancy, they still lag behind the rest of the population.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. believes that this unacceptable situation is the result of the unhealed legacy of racism in this country

And I believe this perfectly acceptable situation is the result of many of them choosing to revel in a culture of self-centeredness and violence that dragged them all down, despite being given every opportunity not to isolate themselves in that culture anymore.

But one belief is based on tangible numbers and Occam's razor, and the other is based on a blind assumption that all people are exactly the same and devoid of personal responsibility for their actions, so unequal outcomes must have some magical outside force to blame.

An "unhealed legacy of racism" doesn't explain black on black homicide driving down life expectancy, but a culture that embraces petty violence more than all the others does.
