Right after the voting in 2020 I saw a story explaining (in Japanese to a Japanese audience) how people in the US claiming the election was stolen are mistaken, and showing a "fake" video of ballots being thrown into a river.

I do think Japanese are more critical of journalists. They don't automatically trust something the TV man said like libshits here do.
