We read it and The Red Pony in middle school.I liked them both. Obviously I feel bad for both George and Lennie. I think we decided, with our sophisticated middle school mentality, that Curly was a symbol of awful management and George and Lennie were average put upon workers. And personally speaking I always think of those cartoon dogs with the little one kissing up to the big dog
