Social media is like kryptonite to those with an innate weakness towards peer pressure, conformity, groupthink, anxiety, low selfesteem, low risk tolerance, and to people pleasers.

We're being pushed towards an increasingly dystopian world by an emergent exploitation of this weakness of the masses and their inability to think and want for themselves.

Reddit is a destructive force, absolutely wrecking the lives of millions through addiction and brainwashing - and the irony of them thinking of themselves as "anti-evil" is just chefs kiss.

The cherry on top of the reddit cake is this however; all what these users truly want is a trad life, in a community, taking care of the children, making arts and crafts, and living in harmony with nature, with likeminded people, in a low conflict, no crime, high trust society. They even say as much. There are threads about what you will do after the revolution, and they all describe some national socialist village life lol

And yet social media (and IMO a big part of that is reddit in particular) has turned them into footsoldiers on the side that is advocating for a high conflict, high crime, no trust society of living in isolation, in polluted cities, dredging away at a corporate job, in a state of constant anxiety surrounded by strangers with all kinds of different belief systems which your animal brain is interpreting as a constant threat and you spend your life in fight or flight, with the only reprieve from the hellscape surrounding you that's allowed being degeneracy and constantly numbing your brain with consumption and propaganda.

It's remarkable. It's a feat. It's in a way impressive. Somehow all these people have been made to spend all their time obsessing about the imagined suffering of "the marginalized" as an exploit to take over their consciousness and imagination and turn them into NPCs. With the marginalized being a class of people who are basically deities, with all the financial, social, and bureaucratic advantages you can imagine. And in doing so advocate for a world that's a disaster for absolutely everyone but a small elite of the cultural and capital upperclass.

It's all so perfectly, beautifully dystopian, I can't help but admire it.

It's as if through this insight there has emerged a reality where we're being pushed towards an increasingly dystopian world by exploiting this weakness of the masses and their inability to think and want for themselves.
