You can have talent in a particular area but not be the right person for the job. I wouldn't ask James Cameron to direct Star Trek or Tarantino to direct Downton Abbey because you know they would put their own twist on it that isn't necessarily faithful to the source material. It's important to pick the director whose style and vision matches the project.

We're very fortunate someone like Peter Jackson, who honestly didn't have the best track record beforehand (or after), had enough passion for the source material to do it the justice it deserved.
