This is the part that scares me: if humanity has survived for hundreds of thousands of years despite countless coronaviral threats, wouldn't the current ongoing series of rushed and unproven interventions threaten to break that winning streak? There are a bunch of theoretically sound scenarios in which leaky vaccines, dirty masks, and international travel create historically unprecedented conditions that allow for a virus to wipe us out.
