Spiro T Agnew was probably the most hated politician of my youth, Nixon's VP, and under a lot of pressure [widespread hatred], he resigned. Then Gerald Ford was nominated for replacement vice, his nomination passed through Congress, and Ford became the VP. Then Nixon resigned and Gerald Ford became the president.

iirc the whole process took around 2 years. But those were lower tech times. We can probably speed that up now.
