"Equality of opportunity" is a Trojan horse for leftism. The truth is that a great many opportunities are in fact outcomes - of effort, labor, discipline, family, culture, etc. The child who attends college because his parents lived beneath their means and saved for tuition actually is entitled to greater opportunity than the child whose parents barely worked and wasted what money they had. Any other conclusion only serves to divorce good behavior from positive consequences. This welfare mentality incentivizes the destructive behavior that tears apart communities and turns cultures toxic.
"It's outcomes all the way back the causality chain?"
"Always has been."

More seriously, I hadn't looked at 'Equality of Opportunity' that way before. Recognizing the causes, and acknowledging inequality a better way to view things. Reminds me of Kilrain's speech from "The Killer Angels." In case you weren't familiar, here:
“The truth is, Colonel, that there's no divine spark, bless you. There's many a man alive no more value than a dead dog. Believe me, when you've seen them hang each other...Equality? Christ in Heaven. What I'm fighting for is the right to prove I'm a better man than many. Where have you seen this divine spark in operation, Colonel? Where have you noted this magnificent equality? The Great White Joker in the Sky dooms us all to stupidity or poverty from birth. no two things on earth are equal or have an equal chance, not a leaf nor a tree. There's many a man worse than me, and some better, but I don't think race or country matters a damn. What matters is justice. 'Tis why I'm here. I'll be treated as I deserve, not as my father deserved. I'm Kilrain, and I God damn all gentlemen. I don't know who me father was and I don't give a damn. There's only one aristocracy, and that's right here - " he tapped his white skull with a thick finger - "and YOU, Colonel laddie, are a member of it and don't even know it. You are damned good at everything I've seen you do, a lovely soldier, an honest man, and you got a good heart on you too, which is rare in clever men. Strange thing. I'm not a clever man meself, but I know it when I run across it. The strange and marvelous thing about you, Colonel darlin', is that you believe in mankind, even preachers, whereas when you've got my great experience of the world you will have learned that good men are rare, much rarer than you think.”

Your observation finds myself coming back to that one line: "No two things on earth are equal or have an equal chance, not a leaf, nor a tree."
Thank you for adding a layer to it's meaning for me.
Left a few replies for you. That was a pretty funny encounter. Maybe it'll put some hair on his soy beans to know there are people with different opinions far closer to reality than the fantasy he's been indoctrinated into.
I'm going to have so much fun triggering the local population. I'm going to be contacting the city next week about painting a slogan on the ground next the the Black Lives Matter painted on a street.
Sue them for discrimination if they deny you. Tell them you just want to add "Blue &" before it in order to promote peace in these troubled times.
Watching them explain how that's wrong would be fun.

I sued the neighboring city last year for a civil rights violation. I will sue this one for it if they cause any issues.
But isn’t that what colleges teach? Larry Elder said that civil rights movement went off the rails when they started demanding equality of outcome
