DC just dropped a bunch of trailers for upcoming movies (Batman, Black Adam, recut Justice League, new Suicide Squad). Kind of interesting to watch them and see the faces that pop out.
Amber Heard - Domestic abuser
Ezra Miller - Recently choke-slammed a girl
James Gunn - sketchy pedophilia comment history
I fully understand they can't cut Flash, and Gunn is a desperate, last-ditch effort to inject GotG style fun into their moribund universe. But surely in a movie that was being made specifically for recut scenes they could have ditched ones with the sociopathic abuser?
Maybe DC are just taking a "fuck cancel culture, we'll use anyone that we want" stance, in which case, more power to them, even if their choice is assholes. I'm not going to be too surprised though if it simply ends up with them being massive hypocrites.
Ezra Miller is a massive SJW too. He did a press interview with Gal Gadot promoting Justice League and at the end he tried to get her to look into the camera and denounce the patriarchy. He was fairly forceful about it too. She didn't do it and looked really uncomfortable with it like she couldn't get away from him fast enough.
Fairly forceful like he was towards that female he allegedly choked. Sounds like he has issues with females
Morbid curiosity. Do you have a link?
This isn't the full interview, but the part I was talking about. It's a little different than I remember since I had only seen it once but still.

Marvel cut Edward Norton and Terrance Howard for less. DC needs to learn the proper lessons from the people they are trying to copy.
It truly hurts as a DC guy to see them waste all their potential on failure after failure and rushing everything.
Amber Heard being an abuser probably gets certain groups excited to watch the movie...
It doesn't help that Aquaman was one of DCs first "actually kinda liked" movies, and she was considered a major part of that in terms of attractiveness.
So they are clinging to her for dear life.
I think it's more of a golden parachute for someone who they fully support the actions of.
They know her career will likely die soon, so send her off with a big movie to thank her for her work for the female supremacist cause.
Unlike you, my friend, I don't think they are that wise or colluding. Its a simple game of "we don't hold her to the same standards" and "she is useful to us, therefore immune to consequences."
wW was the first, not aquaman
I was going to edit the above post to say that at least 'The Batman' looks good but Catwoman and Gordon are both now black. 13% of the population doesn't need every other supporting character be made black. How many Asian characters are in the film, any DC film for that matter? Not that I'm saying there should be. People still buy new characters and being a minority is no barrier to popularity, e.g. 'Scalped' was a great comic series about an Amerindian cop (that would make a good tv show). If you want more minorities in play write better stories for them and adapt those.
Eartha Kitt was catwoman from the 66 TV show, so I mean, you can't really get mad about a quarter black girl playing catwoman these days. At least I can't.
And the guy playing Gordon is a great actor. He's black, sure, but in terms of personality and capability I think he'll nail it.
Maybe it's because Batman has gone through so many incarnations in movies that I don't really see this as anything but yet another interpretation of the mythos and characters. Also the movie looks like Batman meets Se7en and I cannot get mad about that.
You're right, I shouldn't be jumping to conclusions simply based on the race of the actors and there are a bunch of black actors who I'd love to see pop up in this or other superhero movies. I think it's just these two specific actors that set me on edge. Kravitz has a history of bitching about how black actresses don't get offered good roles and how there isn't enough diversity ("Why do stories happen to white people and everyone else is a punchline?"). Jeffrey Wright, meanwhile, has been a rabid TDS sufferer from way back ("May the election of Trump bring forth the fiercest, smartest, toughest generation of ass-kicking women this country could possibly imagine." - you can see why he was happy to play such a milquetoast character on Westworld)
Recasting and reinventing characters isn't a problem, it just becomes a little played out when it only goes in one direction.
I remember the Rino Romano Batman series introduced Batgirl and Poison Ivy at the same time and Gordon was like, "Another red?" because they're rare.
Was Gordon a ginger..? His daughter was, but I just kind of assumed it was from the mother. I mostly watched the older cartoons, so idk what young Gordon or the mother look like. But if Gordon is just an old ginger, that's a little distressing to me because I dislike the whole ginger erasure thing so much.
I'm just not going to watch it cause pattinson is the star. I just can't see him as batman
They did a whole Catwoman movie with Halle Barry as Catwoman in 2004. Her race was mention, but I don't think anyone really cared. Our society's views on race has gone MASSIVELY backwards since then.
I appreciate how James Gunn made Rocket a real character, and not a joke, and made him photorealistic (he looks horrible in the cartoons and telltale games. It's like Marvel artists don't do non-humans very well. Especially the GotG cartoon, ugh. Cosmo looks horrible in full-face view.) So many others would have either written Rocket out as "silly", or just saddled him with stereotropical poop and garbage jokes. Which would be considered "racist" if you did it to a fucking "human of colour." Imagine making a hindu character oriented around rooting in the garbage and pooping on the street, neglecting cows in a way that would get Canadian farmers arrested and socially pilloried and getting angry when you tell them your cat is their granny (because it suggests their granny was a horrible human being) and raping women while they poop in the fields ... but that's basically modern dr doolittle movies, I guess.
Speaking of which, revealing the new Suicide Squad game by Rocksteady -- but it's still two years out from release, ugh -- and despite it reportedly taking place within the Arkham timeline, Deadshot is now black, despite being white in two games and an animated feature that takes place within the same universe.
I get it's for brand recognition due to the first SS movie with the fresh prince playing Deadshot, but Floyd Lawton's identity was already established multiple times, and now they're just shifting it for no good reason.
Ultimately, not a huge deal, but a bit jarring.
Just bring back Static Shock already, for fuck's sake.
True. I haven't tried any DC shows in several years, but I imagine they have degraded past the point of tolerance. Naivete slips out once in a while as I think maybe that they could be happy with the things they demand.
I watched it again a few years ago. They did have a somewhat woke racism episode, but it was mostly silly. But Static was a great black hero (well, teen Static; I need him to not be so serious and overpowered as his future self). They even had his white buddy playing a somewhat subservient role without seriously harming their relationship.
I do shudder to think of how bad a modern woke take of it could be, now that you mention it. They'd miss the point so hard and probably remove his believable qualities in a frantic pursuit to grab virtues. They'd have to make all of his villains white - that'd be funny. Probably turn the white friend into a bungling simp clown while making the hero a genius king that makes his own inventions.
