Nah. They recognize themselves in the demons. They use language and empathy as weapons, too.

The metaphor can be used for any group that dishonestly uses other people's empathy as a weapon against them, that just happens to be one of them. See also "refugees" and leftist activists.

The demons are sociopaths. 1 to 1 exactly they are sociopathic - incapable of normal human emotion or moral understanding, but often faking it to blend in and manipulate people. Which is exactly the kind of "demon" that does end up rising to the top in leftist political structures in real life, and many other types of power structure.
