It's 110% a cheap Trump impersonation. Anyone refuting it, especially the director, is just clowning themselves.
And talk about projection, Not-Trump is always sniffing his wife's hair. Like, fuck you. At one point, he says outright that he's starting a colony of people with "perfect genes" on "this pure white planet" and his followers all wear red hats. The way they phrased the actual sentence was a way to say "White Power" without saying "White Power." But the director insists it's not a Leftist caricature of Trump.
Also, Not-Trump is nearly assassinated at one of his rallies, the bullet grazing his left cheek. Suspicious. In the end, of course, the hyper-masculine black woman takes his place to become president of the colony. Yeah, very suspicious. Almost as if they knew Kamala would be ran back in '22, when this movie was filmed before hitting major delays.
Of course, the women deliver all the appeals to morality and virtue, while the men are cowards, monsters or unsympathetic agents of evil. There's a big scene where the black woman, under arrest for her insurrection, is SHOUTING nonsensical, juvenal insults at Not-Trump, who just stands there and takes it all. Lines like "WE'RE THE FKING ALIENS!" and "YOU THINK YOU HAVE TO RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO LIVES AND DIES, YOU FKING ASSHOLE?" ... that line got applause from the only women in the theater. It was basically a very obvious and tedious anti-colonial, pro-immigrant screed.
All-in-all, it's a very obvious anti-Trump 2.5 hours where it's not clear why it needs to exist or what exactly I was supposed to learn from the whole experience except "Orange Man Bad." I'm sure it'll win all the Oscars again and get a Criterion Collection release.
[Shoutout to my friends at my local cinema for "sponsoring" my admission. So glad I didn't pay for this shit!]
Mark Ruffalo strikes again. Robert Pattinson can do no wrong in my eyes
Zoe is a such an insufferable cunt; her "rich White people" line in "Batman" ruined the whole character.
I don't know how she didn't choke on the irony of that line delivered by a filthy rich nepo baby.
Robert Pattinson was the best part of Tenet, but he was amazing in Good Time. He's genuinely a terrific actor. I still have to watch Lightouse.
Lighthouse is… something. To this day, I can’t decide if I like it or hate it. I certainly don’t love it.
Yer fond of me lobster ain't ye? I seen it... yer fond of me lobster! Say it! Say it. Say it!
Haven't seen it yet, but I keep hearing "fever dream" ascribed to it.
Need to make time for "Good Time."
"Uncut Gems" is a rollercoaster reminiscent of a John Cassavetes film straight outta the 70s.
