This can be a trap to delay until you're past the event horizon. At some point non-violent attempts are no longer real options and just the illusion of an option that has not yet been exhausted. I can't say whether that's currently the case or not, but I think that conceptual threshold exists.

Yes, and I fear we already are. The fact that they're canceling presidential elections with impunity, and banning from election the guy who beat their sorry asses, makes me feel like American after Jan 6.
The thing is, if there were an effort made that had a reasonable chance of success, a reasonable person might answer differently. But a lot of glowies seem to be arguing: GRAB A GUN NOW AND GO SHOOT AT PEOPLE.
Which accomplishes nothing and gives them yet more excuses to crack down on their opposition.

There's ample evidence that an excuse isn't required. This is always my beef with this argument. It's the old adage, If the penalty for being late is the same penalty for revolt, then why not revolt once you're late.
So I'm sure they want to crack down, but cracking down without a casus belli leads to a reaction. Look at Turkey and the aftermath of the Gulen coup attempt, for example. I'm sure Erdogan wanted to crack down before, but he was only able to get away with it afterwards. Or the US Injustice system after Jan 6.
What I mean to say is that trying and failing just strengthens the ruling order. If you're going to aim at the king and all.
And I know that this is probably an excuse for people to not put their comfortable lives at risk, myself included, but I also think that it's true at this moment.
Your ilk said the same thing when you were trying to discourage people from voting for Trump.
Exhaust all peaceful means.
