One story I remember in particular is a guy who had PTSD over killing Germans who were walking around their camp because he sensed they were just like him.

Soldiers aren't monoliths. I'm sure lots felt guilty for killing people. But I'm sure plenty went around killing krauts and slept fine.
True, and it's not like the guy I mentioned felt bad for every German he killed. But the bloodthirsty Nazi-devouring GI doesn't seem that common.
