Nielsen data is collected from participants who opt-in to have a device hooked to their TV that monitors what you watch, when, and for how long. It's not like YouTube where that data is collected from literally everyone who uses the platform. Or at least that's how it worked back in the analog days. I don't know if 'smart' TVs can do that on their own, I've never had one.
