I wish non-Americans would stop bashing us for our politics while not being here to understand what's going on.
So long as my country is a de facto protectorate of yours rather than properly independent we're gunna talk about it and try to involve ourselves in it, because it affects us.
I am sympathetic to the 'hey euros/asians/aussies stfu you know nothing' thing. But you can't play that card while ALSO ruling us and couping our leaders. Well you can, being the rulers, but it's an inconsistent position. We are a part of the 'greater American empire', so we are interested.
Whose fault is that? Not ours. In fact, Trump wants you all to increase your spending on your military to the agreed upon NATO minimum so maybe we can stop worrying about you.
He’s not saying you’re not interested, he’s saying you’re ignorant. If your defense is to say “we have reason to care” without also addressing his point about ignorance, it only makes you look worse; at least if you were uninterested, it would be reasonable to be uninformed. I will throw you a bone and say that your media is even more thoroughly captured than ours and so it’s even harder to not be ignorant, but you could and should acknowledge the point he was making rather than haring off about things that make you look bad. I also have to agree with u/LauriThorne that some of this dependence is self-inflicted.
The yanks are generally as ignorant about what it is like under the greater US empire, to be in one of its vassals, as the euros and such are of internal US politics. That's not an excuse for the greater empire' ignorance, but it is again rich for yanks to demand they not be ignorant on these matters from within the US while those within the US are as ignorant of the wider empire.
And if the US is in charge, some of the responsibility for the ignorance of the people in its wider empire is theirs to bear. Not immediately, not the moment a new region is brought in, these things take time. But it's been an awful long time now, so they do now have some responsibility for it.
