If EVs are so good, why does the government need law and policy to force people to buy them? Why not remove all the tax-payer funded incentives on EV (which is rich people welfare) and penalties on ICE (which is poor people tax)? We didn't have to legislate to stop people using horse and buggy did we? Did we legislate to stop people using kerosene lamps instead of light bulbs? Or fax machines? Or mechanical typewriters?
Because people don't want Elon remotely shutting off their car in one of his ketamine hangovers
Not kerosene lamps, but we did legislate away incandescent bulbs in favor of "energy efficient" lighting. At first they pushed CFLs that no one liked, now it's LEDs everywhere.
I liked CFLs. But mostly because I was a nerdy teenager that read a lot of books at the time, and appreciated being able to put a very bright, harsh light that was easy to read by in a 60 watt fixture beside my bed.
I never really liked CFLs even when they were new. The light quality, the warm-up, the flicker, the disposal...not a fan.
LEDs, on the other hand, I jumped in when everyone was experimenting with new and funky bulb designs. Now they're boring with everyone mimicking the traditional incandescent shape, though I appreciate having more color temps than just 2700k or 5000k.
Don't you get it? We need to ban clay tablets so that my uncle who farms papyrus can make more money!
That's about how stupid these taxes are, if it is great people will use it.
Some places legislated kerosene lamps away because they’re a fire hazard. Oh wait …
