So sick of this nonsense. If we're not going to get term limits we should demand that any legislator over 65 needs to be required to take a cognitive assessment every 6 months to continue voting.
I still think demanding they step into a boxing ring against their opponent would sort a lot of things out. It's a de facto age limit and it filters out abject cowards from being able to hold office.
Not sure it's something I'd actually advocate for, but we need to start at least brainstorming what sort of incentive structure we want in place to encourage a better quality of candidate than what we're currently getting.
It's a good gate, but I think we still need some additional mechanisms to filter for good policy-making. Unfortunately I am not a sufficiently clever man so I'm not sure what we'd use.
