Validation of voting status was always handled at the polling place itself and even then it wouldn’t have stopped him from voting if he had a motor voter registration!
That’s why this mail in voting is a complete corruption of the system. All you need is to register a few hundred fake people in each precinct and then generate the ballots to send in to match the names. (And in some states you don’t even need that!)
This is the logical conclusion of "register everyone to vote." This was never a global good trying to register everyone, and the consequences of trying too hard are pretty obvious.
And yeah mail in voting is just asking for fraud. Intentionally, I think. It makes it so much easier to mask. You can even wait until all the ballots have come in to see how many you need to stuff, since counting mail in ballots apparently takes a long time. If everyone votes on a machine, it's done when it's done. A computer can add really fast. Yeah, you do some verification, but there is no reason for days of counting. The ballots were already counted when cast.
"I voted today."
"Me too."
"Aren't you an international student?"
"Wait, can I not vo- FFFFFFFFFFFFFF."
Just goes to show how the system is designed obfuscate fraudulent votes.
Not “obfuscate” so much as protect anonymity.
