I have fairly similar thoughts. They may not be able to stop Trump getting into office, but if they can take over Congress enough they might be able to remove him with bogus impeachment charges. It seems like a last hurrah since their previous lawfare wasn't working, and their assassins have been unlucky and incompetent so far.
