I'm not even surprised this is the "defence" they're teaching. It's utterly stupid, and you'd think doctors would know about the dangers of knife wounds and would therefore try to keep their wrists away from a blade unlike the guy in this video that's making it incredibly easy to get his wrists slashed.
Better a cut to the wrist than getting stabbed in the torso, which is exactly what would happen if the guy with the knife simply grabbed the slow-moving lab coat and yanked it towards himself.
yes. even if they're teaching "desperate defense" kind of things, when running away is not an option for some reason, this is the absolute worst way of using a lab coat in self defense.
at least teach them to wrap it around their forearm and use that as a shield, or something. the thing is made of very sturdy fabric( at least they used to be lol), and if you manage to bait the attacker into a bad stab and they get their knife stuck in the lab coat you have a chance to disarm them.
i sincerely hope this is the part of the course where they demonstrate what NOT to do.

Why bring a gun to a knife fight when you can bring a cotton/polyester blend doctors coat!

Seriously, Coat Man is basically waving a convenient distance closer at his assailant. This is the absolute worst thing you could do.
