Hey, I agree, I played the original Assassin's Creed up to Black Flag before I dipped. You want to know how long we were calling for Assassin's Creed in Japan because ninjas?
Since 2, they got even bigger with the animation Embers when they showed a Chinese female Assassin. And after waiting SO LONG they give it to is but gotta put a gay/bi black guy in it along with a gay/bi female ninja and call the black dude a historical character even though we've NEVER played as a historical character before.
I'd say the selling point started off as parkour movement but what started to really sell it was hanging out with historical characters like Da vinci, BlackBeard, Washington etc, them doing this ruined that appeal since they'll literally diversify history as it used to be fun looking at their codex for the history of people and places. Their current one, they can't tell Chinese and Japanese apart!
For as much of a weeb as I am, I'm thinking an Assassin's Creed China might have worked out better. I have to wonder if Ubisoft would have produced the game in the same haphazard way, and what the reaction of Chinese people would have been.
It probably would've worked out better, given how many different fractions existed in China all trying to assume power at the sane time, it's good set up for an Assassin's Creed game.
And if they fucked it up like shadows, then they'd be more fucked as even Tencent wouldn't buy them.
