It reminds me of the feeling I had when I first saw gamergate, that feeling of obviously noticing that gay women and gay womenly men were using a trillion dollar industry as a personal piggy bank and wondering why people were so easily swayed by obvious lies.

democracy is neither good nor bad. its a system for selecting figureheads. you could switch to hereditary monarchy tomorrow, and you'd have different figureheads. But thats no guarantee they won't do the exact same shit, because they would still be owned by the exact same people.
Democracy, the way the intelligent Greeks originally devised it, was a brilliant idea. Allow the smart people of a close knit unified collective of one people to discuss and sway each other with reasonable discussion and have the best of a city-state establish rules and rulers through merit. American Democracy, however, is a system of bussing in as many rubes as possible, feeding them lies laced with gibs and appealing to womanly "My team over the good of people", and flood ballot boxes with no room for good and personal discussions of the direction of the way history will flow. And then once a certain team is elected, have the public face of a team pick and choose unelected paid off positions to establish rules that way to protect the interests of handlers.

Now that the left used COVID to enable a whole lot of universal mail in voting, those disinterested masses don't have to do anything other than: check the mailbox one day; find a ballot in there; "think" to themselves, "Hmm. Which box should I check? Harris? What were her policies again? Was she even forced to have any? Even if she were, am I supposed to care what they are? Doesn't it really just matter that I vote on the righteous non-nazi, non-fascist side? Oh wait! I remember! Le Orange Man Bad! I've heard that non-stop for almost 10 years now!", then check the "not Trump" box, and stuff it back in the mail box.
Fuck. They can even skip the last step in a lot of places, because the left sends around people to harvest those ballots.

my take is that it's a prediction on perception, not the quality of the candidate. a lot of trump supporters were banking on Harris's inability to do or say anything off script, but thanks to the moderation those opportunities were scarce. with the cheating that we all know is happening, Trump needs a significant margin over Harris in order to beat the margin of fraud. since Harris looks competent if you squinted, that margin was not delivered via the debate like many of us thought it would.
