Getting amusement? Works nearly everytime, and when it doesn't its because I fuck up and get a lesson to learn from.
Actually accomplishing anything? Never, people here are as NPC brained as most Leftists and cannot deviate from their programming enough to even engage with an argument outside of repeating buzzwords, points they got from Talking Heads, and doing everything to avoid admitting fault.
We can't have debates anymore because everything has become a virtue signal. Even in niche little shitholes like this, that have zero value, people are obsessed with making sure you know how much they hate the Jews (to use one example, it fits with any label really) and how every thing in existence is Jews.
No questions, no thinking. Just waiting for the next guy to say "actually it was even more Woke than you just said!" as he quotes some random screenshot and then every claps like seals.
And if you point out their source is flawed and doesn't make sense they will flip shit and accuse you of defending women and being a simp and yadayada. Even if you agreed the idea seemed possible, but the source saying it wasn't trustworthy and likely just grifting. They don't want to engage with the idea, they just want to be applauded for saying Nigger the loudest. And they've wrapped their ego and self-worth in being the rebel who says it, which means you questioning them is an actual attack.
Even someone who is educated and capable of debate, like Gitzortnik, will simply start shouting "STORMFAG STORMFAG" at you for trying to engage him on the topic, because his ego is that wrapped in being "the voice of reason" here about it.

Because its human to do so. Everyone wants to be the underdog, everyone wants to be special, and everyone wants to be right. It takes constant self reflection, self-forced humility, and a willingness to break rank regardless of embarrassment to stave off our own subconscious turning us into that.
Its even more rampant right now, because the cultural/political landscape is heavily team based. Us vs them. You can't have a nuanced or third position because that's just letting the Evil side get stronger through inaction. So everyone is pushing each other to the extremes to try and become the "overwhelming force" they think is necessary to defeat the other side.
You are probably correct in that gathering knowledge is discouraged, instead knowledge is just meant to be a bludgeon to prove how enlightened you are, and if you can be the one to say "ackshually Greece/Rome was super homophobic, you been psyopped into thinking otherwise" then you become the most "knowledgable" and thereby the winner.
