I'm not "blackpilled" or anything, but I can definitely see the possibility of some serious fuckery. And, much more disappointingly, I can absolutely see the possibility where there's some absolute fuckery...and no one bothers to do anything about it. That's the lame part.
I don't think it's the likeliest outcome, but they could try to suspend US elections, for the first time ever, and the mass majority would just nod. And the people who have been crying about insurrections would actually cheer.
They could also jail Trump before the election. They could also say he's ineligible, after he wins. Which, ironically, is exactly what they accused him of trying to do. But it would be fine when they do it.
The pathetic part is how so many people would go along with it. It's not the sole cause, but we're all so fucking comfortable in this modern world. It could take years or decades after an obvious coup to reach any sort of point where people say enough. Heck, we've already had plenty of US coups, going back decades. We just do it bloodlessly nowadays.
One positive is, just like with our republic, it's not just majority rules. Even if most people go along with it, enough people in concentrated areas might object that we'd see a sea change, and a shifting of the Overton window. Texas, for example. While they're not as based as people say, they've still got the potential to push back, and plenty of other states are similar. So you might see a situation where, even if the people aren't objecting in any organized way, individual states push back and refuse to go along with it. Which, again, leads to some more interesting situations.
Anyway, it's something to keep in mind - Dems definitely aren't above trying it - but I don't think it's the likeliest...although it's more likely than it's ever been in US history so, if it were going to happen, now would be ripe for it.
But, if they can't cheat, and Trump wins, I think the likeliest outcome is they'll fight it, but have to let him in. If Trump can score that "official" win, they're whine and cry, but he'll end up in office.
It's...a weird situation.
