I was one of those kids who went through various forms of therapy throughout elementary and Middle School. Most of it was because my parents refused (correctly) to accept an autism diagnosis and explored every option available to them. I did have several episodes of violent behavior in early elementary School, and I didn't get along well with other kids, so their cause for concern wasn't completely unjustified.
All that said, if the therapists I saw were the pinnacle of the profession, then therapy is a scam. One of them even paid me a whole dollar and bribed me with candy each session to get me to be excited to come back. The candy he bribed me with was candy that my parents strictly would not let me have due to dietary reasons, so I know he wasn't running it by my parents.
the whole thing was useless and probably very expensive. my parents got conned.
Ah, you too? I got diagnosed with ADD, back before they put an H in there, but my bribe was pogs in elementary school. That was the in-school therapist or some adjacent role. The shrinks with the proper offices just talked with me a lot but I don't think it really did anything and was just an excuse to push the prescription for micro-dosing methamphetamine.
Glad I kicked ALL of that shit to the curb after college, but I do wonder how much it may have messed me up.
as for the therapy, you can relax. if it's anything like my experience, it was all an excuse to milk money out of your parents. the only thing they did was waste your time
