For me it was slashdot, then digg, then fark, then Reddit. I was recently site-banned from Reddit just like op (presumably related to the election - they’re being extra censorious) but Reddit sure had, and is still having, a long run.
The UI redesign a few years ago should have killed it. It’s god awful.
Seems pretty clear that right now big corporate interests are propping up Reddit and suppressing alternatives. They control Reddit and they paid big money to make that happen. They’re protecting their investment.
Some alternatives that have come and gone include voat and poal.
4chan is compromised too. We’re just weeks from an election and they’re doing nothing. Remember September 2016? Pol was the source of almost every meme back then. Today - nothing. And infinity chan is totally dead.
I’m legitimately shocked that this place, and the farms are still active.

The option to opt out of said redesign has probably done a lot to prolong its life.
