Since there's so much depressing stuff going on right now I thought it might be fun for everyone to sperg about audio for awhile. I'm very much in the market for upgrading my audio at some point, I don't know if it would be worth doing a speaker setup of some kind.
You might find this funny but I'm having to remember that yes I am living on my own now and I can do stupid shit like this. My only issue of course is that I often tend to game and relax at night, so it would probably pay off more to get some kind of really good quality wireless headphones.
I have a decent pair now, but they're cheapos and they often break because they're made from the crappiest plastic ever. At some point I want to get myself something nice and long lasting to have that premium sound experience. I wouldn't mind doing some gaming and such or testing my own audio on a speaker system too.
I'm veering towards maybe Logitech and Sennheiser brands generally.
The Sennheiser headsets last 4-5 times as long as any other option, for me. I scoffed at the price when someone recommended them, but they tend to be more durable in my own experience.
I really liked Plantronics Rig which came with a USB mixer, you could flip the audio over to a cell phone to make a phone call. But the damn headset broke every year like clockwork.
Been using the same set of Senn HD598 for a decade on my gaming setup. I find semi-open back cans amazing for gaming. Aside from not being completely cut off from hearing around you, your ears don't feel so disgusting after a long session.
That's been my experience with the cheap headsets as well, there are these crappy brand called goodman's that are on sale at one of the local shops, I go for them because it's easy and at least I've got something. You're right though in that they do seem to be almost designed to break very easily, if it happens often enough, you may as well have paid the full price for a proper pair of headphones without any of the stress and annoyance.
