So HotD, as its fans apparently call it, has been low-key cringe for quite a while now. While it is not wholly lacking in virtue, it has done its fair share of pandering to the crazies. The season finale, which I was stupid enough to watch, brought things to a new level.
They brought on a GUY IN A DRESS to play an actual woman. With all their CGI and sound transforming technology, I could immediately tell that something ain't right. And once I figured out the character's name, it turns out she was played by... a bloke who presents a Youtube channel called Philosophy Tube. He looks like this. His name is Oliver Thorn, and he masquerades as Abigail Thorn. Don't you love the names that these cross-dressers pick - the "it's ma'am" fellow called himself "Tiffany", because of course.
Suffice it to say that """"""""SHE"""""""" was flirting with a guy, saying that he has good genes, and that """she""" wants his babies... and that he should therefore lie with """her""" wives. What? I thought: well yeah, you're a bloke - you can't get pregnant, but you do have wives.
It's just a ****show as well as a **** show.
Why am I telling you this? Misery loves company, I guess?
The usual anti-woke critics have loved HotD (I don't watch it), but recent talk says it ended the season EXTREMELY poorly. I didn't hear the details, but if that was the reason... oh lord.
I don't even mind that they give it their stamp of approval, but the terms they use in approval is quite disturbing. Critical Drinker calls it (or Dune, don't remember) 'excellent', which they most certainly are not. It is just an indication of how far our standards have fallen.
To be fair, you do need to have a very high IQ to refuse to watch House of the Dragon, because it's absolute crap.
And I say that without the slightest irony.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaah... I have bad news. That wasn't the reason. It was just the icing on the sh*t sandwich.
As far as Dune went, everyone had the caveat-
- except Chani. Fuck Zendaya.
I have some criticisms of Dune unrelated to Zendaya - and even Zendaya had her moments. Dune 2 at least.
What's up with the races? Why are half of basically Bedouin people black? What's up with 'the fundamentalists in the South'? And what's up with people who supposedly speak a sort of Arabic as their native language having the most obnoxious US-coastal accent?
All in all, I'd give it a passing grade, though just barely. The fact that we label such crap as 'excellent' shows how far our standards have declined. You can watch a run-of-the-mill movie from 20 years ago that is better, like Johnny English, and you don't have wokeness shoved down your throat either.
The number of people whom consider the new Dune movie such a wonder-watch depress the absolute fuck out of me.
I shouldn't be surprised. I doubt 90% of the people masturbating about said movie have actually sat down and, y'know, read the fucking book.
The first movie cemented my opinion that the director's knowledge of the Dune universe is a very, very wide puddle - impressive looking at the outside, but immediately goes dry the moment you jump into it. Yet, here we are, people loosing their minds over how supposedly awesome it is.
Arabs aren't diverse enough, "diversity" really just means black nowadays.
Even with real history that's the case, like with black (and Baizuo) Americans calling Egyptians racist for having a problem with a "documentary" that lies about Cleopatra being black.
Yeah, definitely. It kinda makes me want to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (34 years old) again.
You heard accents in Dune? I couldn't hear anyone talking. I mean it makes sense noise attracts worms, but trying to hear that movie is impossible
