There are countless buildings in England older than that, and not just historic museums or castles, but some places people still live. A lot of Americans are desperate for some kind of family history because their nation is so young relative to others many have no lasting history or idea of their cultural roots. That ends up being even worse the further forward any particular individuals family will have arrived, which blacks are of particular note.
I'm American, so yes, there's a lack of national solidarity involved there. But Yasuke predates America too. He was African, not "black". Therefore American blacks should feel nothing about him the same way I feel about some foreigner with the same skin color as me.
