It’s a classic motte and bailey. Historical accuracy is obviously a major selling point for the franchise. A black samurai makes no sense in this context. If they wanted to make him a one-off side character, it would still be stupid. The fact that they made him the center of the entire game is nothing less than an overt and deliberate attack on Japanese culture.
