They did the same thing to Ash in the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series.

The Army of Darkness ending they chose to continue from (Ash coming back to present day, kicking some more deadite ass and kissing the hot chick in the store while saying "hail to the king, baby.") gets completely thrown out so that he can be a pathetic loser living in a trailer park and having sex and getting high with a cheap prostitute.
