You are absolutely right. There was very little about SBI before the game came out. I remember seeing it. Then the game came out and people started to wonder why it was shit. Some people made the connection and it blew up.
But the core thing is people were looking for why the game is shit and found SBI. They didn’t start at SBI looking for a game to hate.

Maybe it was the fact that you ruined a longtime beloved character and happened to be the last work the legendary voice actor did before he died and slap the faces of anyone who was ever a Batman fan, let alone an Arkham Batman fan. That’s probably why the game flopped.
