honestly, besides their search engine Google never really made anything good. the company structure is such that they build a bunch of half projects that release with fanfare then quietly get canned.
Is Maps part of search? Because bugs and stupid mistakes aside (they once accidentally deleted a ton of indoor 360 views that people uploaded) I find it quite useful. Yes it was based on tech they bought, but they've added a lot since then like Street View and 3D. A really cool feature of street view is the ability to see previous views of an area over time.
I'm also pretty sure the whole thing is a CIA joint but that sounds really conspiratorial when I tell people and I can't prove it.
