It’s sarcasm. Although “more people are watching on iPlayer” IS the go-to defense. I know Disney+ doesn’t release watch numbers. Does BBC do this with iPlayer?
I think they have to as a byproduct of being government funded through the licensing fees.
I'm pretty sure anyone from the UK could a for the data by request as they had to publish how much they pay their staff and showrunners compared to other channels/ streaming services.
Besides that excuse went out the window when they blamed poor rates on good weather..
