I'm going to assume this is a con, and they've got money in ShotSpotter. What a boon it'll be to the company when cities pay them to install the devices in neighborhoods where shootings DON'T happen, just to dispel the illusion of racism.
It's always a con, some cons are more elaborate than others and they hide them better, but it's always a con. It looks like the shit that we've been dealing with for years in the UK is finally reaching the U.S. The joke is a lot of this stuff is faulty garbage to begin with, they're just cheap motion sensors that can get set off by anything. Whenever I see a tech company I've never heard of mysteriously pop up being touted by boomers I instantly get suspicious.

No, the con is that fixing the problem is a threat to their power. If ShotSpotter helps clean up the Democrat shitholes they'll stop voting Democrat.
Or simply naming the company and tech could increase their sales in other communities.
