The many criticisms you can make of it asides, the mandatory public school uniforms Louisiana had at least drilled it into everyone's head from an early age what "work vs play" appearances should be.
Now everybody has at least one good, "conservative" outfit to wear on serious occasions and knows how to actually wear it too. Some schools even made sure to teach people how to make their wild hairstyles more "acceptable" to keep them within guidelines. We had a lot of white girls with cornrows in the office regularly getting them fixed.
I think a lot of kids aren’t being taught the lesson that there is a way to act in a professional setting vs with your friends
