Arch has been doing the rounds on this making a good point as how Amazon could be behind this:
With any character changes or introduction in 40k, GW follows up quickly with a new figurine to buy since that is their primary product.
Where are the female Custodian figurines?
It seems the fact they outright gaslit their customers has pissed off even the whales that buy their sets, if they aren't buying 3D printers by now, they are buying from those that HAVE 3D printers.
If they had any imagination whatsoever this could easily have been avoided SM.
A specialist birthing sect in the style of The Handmaid's Tale who were completely out-of-sight of the main warfare aspect of the universe but still as capable in a variety of other ways, rich in lore and subculture(s) completely clandestine until something happens which opens up their existence for a specific story. Perhaps an evolved Sisterhood of Silence agent or even buried deeper in the shadows.
But nope, give me your toys and I'll just make them immediately into my toys because that's how you establish a massive following going on 40 years.
I hope Cavill doesn't get too pissed off with this like he did with The Witcher or we might get another Alec Holowka, with him going the way of George Reeves and a bunch of folk saying "It was nothing I did or said..."
GW don't appear great at their own lore so they'd never come up with a plausible reason.
I kind of liked the Primaris marines purely because they advance the story and correct the power creep of SM's getting overshadowed. Their implementation was garbage though, my head canon is that "Bellisarius Cawl is just a cover story"
