Terminal list is fiction. But it Depends what your adversary is - if you’re worried about the NSA spying on you - yes they probably have ways to decrypt it. (and they’re 100% storing your data to decrypt it when its easier).
If you live in a second tier country like Germany/Japan etc then it’s less likely they can see what you’re saying.
Obviously it's fuckin fiction, but the people who reviewed it for publishing never would have let a service that they actually couldn't get into be mentioned by the guy who talks about being a SEAL in the authors note where he states that the military reviewed and approved his novel to make sure it doesn't reveal any classified information like tactics.
