Funny you mention this, MentisWave just did a video about why Flat Earth debaters always seem to "win" debates. Deliberately lying and counting on your opponent not having the obscure but true facts at a moment's recall is what does it.
We especially don't come prepared for facts to debate something assumed to be patently true to everyone. Most people don't ever think about why wide-angle (fisheye) lenses are commonly used in space, or how the atmosphere bends light around the horizon to show ships past the curve, or why rockets travel sideways. Somebody took random trivia that sounds sus and built a whole psyop around it.
