Throughout big tech, there seems to be a cult that worships machine learning. They think it's the solution to everything - literally. They think they will make a god and it will deliver us to paradise. Google thought they could use machine learning to predict what buttons you were going to press in a video game and give you "negative latency". Amazon is run by a machine learning recommendation algorithm that is now hopelessly gamed by bots.
In this case they probably thought a machine learning solution would magically appear from the singularity and make their grocery store work.
Amazon is so full of chinkshit that I do my shopping brick-and-mortar now. Maybe work on that instead of recommending me a YUNGEE #1 BEST QUALITY shit.
This is why I shit on machine learning AI generally and am being very stubborn about it. Machine learning itself is an interesting concept, however the people who are marketing it, true to form have no idea how it works and I don't care how many downvotes I get for spamming it. It's going to get so obnoxious we're going to see 'AI powered toasters' soon enough and the person trying to sell it to you won't be able to explain what it does beyond telling you it's got AI and that's why it's awesome.
I also wouldn't trust modern vehicles anymore because of this too, they've got so many electronics in them they're probably going to shut themselves off at the slightest issue. I'm currently looking at vehicles generally and I'm going to buy the most mechanically simple stuff so if there's ever any electronic warfare directed at this country I won't be fucked.
