The last The Sims game I played was the 2nd one back when it came out. I'm wondering if any are worth picking up or is this just my nostalgia making me want to revisit the series? I wanted to play something that is a change of pace from my usual games.

Depends on what your looking for game playwise and how "modern" it is. Each game really is a snapshot of the decade it's released in. The most recent one does have the most content but it is a reflection of modern times for better or worse. It is very much more Sims 2 like though than it's predecessor so if you like 2 you'll probably like 4.
Sims 3 is a different experience but it is saddled with a creaking engine where you can't use all the dlc at once without setting your computer on fire.
That's too bad about Sims 3 having a shit engine. So Sims 4 is good enough?
Sims 3 is better than Sims 4 despite the performance problems. Sims 4 has too many fat sims. If you like fat people you might like 4 better.
Of fucking course. It's not enough that they're all pedos. They have to be fat pedos.
It's not that bad, just load the game about 15 minutes before you want to start playing it.
