The thing is, as someone that played Vindictus, the Defying Fate trailer didn't even look like a new game, so it feels weird to hear it hyped up like this. The outfit that Fiona was wearing wasn't even a new design, it was her signature armor from the original.
I suppose I might be taking the environmental effects for granted.
No you're right, this bothers me as well something that annoys me about Helldivers and Palworld is the total lack of original environment design. Once you get clued into this you'll notice it everywhere. Unreal 5 is the most recent example you can point to where they always spam default grass everywhere, they don't even bother changing some of the settings to make it look a bit different so it gets really jarring at times.
The other thing I love to point out is speed tree which is an asset that most modern big studios are heavily reliant on. Obviously guys, I want to point out I'm not expecting every single dev out their to hand model their own vegetation for a massive game, that would be very unrealistic. This sort of thing really helps your game stand out though. I've done low poly tree modelling and it makes a massive difference to the look of everything. As opposed to grabbing a bunch of assets everybody has seen a million times and then acting surprised when gamers find it boring.
What's ridiculous is even the main character for this game on their cover looks boring, nobodies fooled by the generated metahuman's and mocap anymore, fucking big studios.
So we have this offering from the left
And we have Stellar Blade and Vindictus:Defying fate offering up attractive female characters and showing two fingers to the puritan left.
Wonder which will sell more?

Look, we are just happy to have decent gameplay at this point. A starving man isn't critiquing the way his food is plated.
Yeah that's fair enough, I just think the games industry can definitely do better with the software we have at our disposal now.
