She is badly describing Orientalism, or Othering. Within cultural studies it is the method of explaining something as weird as an explanation in of itself. There is tons of sensationalism within it.
It's just as fun to watch the other direction within the same othering. Japanese TV shows talking about Christmas or Christian beliefs can be hilarious. The garden of eden lets people become immortal demigods with fiery swords! Santa is either the Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel or a cute girl. Jews are Christian, and celebrate christmas. Everyone just walks around like Vikings, and eats large chunks of meat.
Or the Chinese point of view, Jesus studied under Buddha. The women are constantly walking around in Bikinis and talking about how much they hate men. They need a strong Chinese man to teach them love.
There are World War II cosplayers who dress in Nazi uniforms and walk around conventions giving Adolf Hitler's High Five.
It is hilarious, but expected.
When I taught classes, I brought up the Klingons from Star Trek. There is no way that billions of citizens speak the same language and have the same culture. K'pla is probably hello in a very specific language, and the humans haven't figured it out yet. This is why no one knows about Klingon Bagel shops.
Or sometimes other deities.
You never truly understand Shakespeare until you've read it in the original Klingon.
I think I've seen Santa on a dragon with other deities as well, but I could have been really tired at the time.
