Hi all. Recently I’ve noticed a few individuals who engage with this forum clearly in bad faith. The best way to handle them, is to simply not engage. Ignore them and they leave. Respond, and they get what they wanted (wasting your time). If the person you’re engaging in dialogue with is acting in bad faith, there is nothing gained by continuing the comment thread for dozens of replies.

There's some that are just obvious bad taste trolls where you shouldn't engage, you're wasting your time. The worst of those was when we had porn spam posts a while back.
Then there's individuals where, I wouldn't say they operate in bad faith, it's just they are so dogmatic in their opinions that it aggravates anyone not 100% onboard and leads to essentially people assuming bad faith because of how they postband comment.
Like they can post something that's so dogmatic that it pisses most people off then post something benign that gets massive down votes because of their previous posts whereas I could post the same benign thing and I'll be fine. There's no helping that as they aren't breaking rules just being a jackass in how they approach people.
I've actively had to stop myself downvoting Imp when he posts something sane. I've actually noticed a personal slide from "Stopping myself downvoting on reflex and upvoting." to "Taking back the downvote but leaving it neutral" to "Fuck it, he's earned it." depending on how annoyed with him I am.
The frustrating part for me is, Imp will often say something mostly reasonable...then end it in absolute RetardLand. I always have to decide if his retardation is worth ignoring and upvoting, or is retarded enough to warrant a downvote.
He isn't the only one around here. Gizortnik vacillates between Idiot Savant and just Idiot.
He very clearly has deep knowledge of several fields ... but some of the stuff he says is just bonkers. Sometimes reading his comments are a rollercoaster ride; especially when it is a field I happen to know in depth.
